As part of our 2015/16 Studentship Competitions the SGSSS will be awarding at least 65 fully-funded awards for students commencing their postgraduate studies in the social sciences at one of our eligible institutions. Students successful in the 2015/16 competition will commence studies in Autumn 2016.
A masters is not a prerequisite for studying at the SGSSS DTC. A range of training programmes are available based on an assessment of the applicant’s prior learning and training needs. All studentships can be offered on a full or part time basis.
We run a number of Award Competitions annually through which studentships can be secured. They are:
The Open Competition
- For students who are looking to apply for PhD funding through one of our 24 Pathways at one of our eligible institutions. More information about on how to apply can be found here.
The Advanced Quantitative Methods (AQM) Competition
- For students using advanced quantitative methods (AQM) in their PhD. This competition is run in tandem with the Open Competition and the application process is the same.
The Collaborative Competition
- For academics (with or without a named student) who are looking to propose a project which involves a non-academic partner organisation. This competition is run separately from the Open and AQM Competitions, information regarding the application process can be found here.
The Skills Development Scotland Competition
- For academics (with or without a named student) who have deveopled a proposal in response to the topics identified by SDS. This competition is run separately from the Open and AQM Competitions, information regarding the application process can be found here.
