Scottish Graduate School of Social Science

Accounting and Finance

The Accounting and Finance groups in Scotland have a highly collegiate community that actively cooperates in research, research training and doctoral support for over 200 doctoral students. This co-operation is supported by the British Accounting Association (BAA) and its regional Scottish Accounting Group (SAG) (active for over 20 years) as well as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS). Evidence of successful outcomes is seen in the high level of participation and the careers that previous participants have achieved.

Advanced training over the +3 years is currently provided uniquely for Accounting and Finance as a distinctive programme to complement wider provision across Business and Management. The pathway is highly synergistic with the Business and Management pathway and its structure is deliberately similar.

Research in A&F is directly relevant to the ESRC challenge of Global Economic Performance, Policy and Management and contributes to the ESRC challenge of Environment, Energy and Resilience. Such research is a distinctive extension of the ESRC's priority disciplines of Business and Management and Economics.
